Retirement often conjures images of slowing down, but for Mohan Peters, 60, and his wife K.L. Naisy, 57, both retired police personnel from Kannur, Kerala, it has become a vibrant chapter of amplified physical prowess and international acclaim. This inspiring couple has not only maintained an unwavering commitment to fitness but has also carved out a remarkable niche in the world of powerlifting, proving that age is truly just a number when it comes to pursuing peak physical well-being.

A Partnership Forged in Discipline: Mohan and Naisy’s Background

Mohan Peters, a former Junior Superintendent at the DIG Office, retired in 2020 with over two and a half decades of experience as an international powerlifting trainer. His dedication to fitness extends back to his youth, having been crowned Mr. Kannur in 1983 and captaining the district hockey team. Mohan excelled in weightlifting, powerlifting, and Kalaripayattu before transitioning into coaching. He began coaching the Indian national team at the World Masters Powerlifting Championship in Udaipur in 2004, leading India to numerous international victories.

K.L. Naisy, who retired as the Kannur City Police Office Manager in 2024, now stands as an international masters powerlifter, coached by her husband. Their relationship in the competitive arena mirrors a trainer-disciple bond, a testament to Mohan’s profound influence on Naisy’s fitness journey.

From Pain to Powerlifting Triumph: Naisy’s Inspiring Journey

Naisy’s entry into the rigorous world of powerlifting was born out of necessity. She suffered from chronic pain in her right hand, a discomfort that conventional medicine failed to alleviate. Mohan, observing her struggle, suggested she begin exercising at the gym, prescribing specific routines to ease her pain. Within a month, her pain subsided, and Naisy became a regular gym-goer alongside her husband.

It was Mohan who then encouraged Naisy to venture into powerlifting. Despite initial reluctance, she embraced the challenge and quickly rose through the ranks in the international masters powerlifting circuit. Her dedication bore fruit, earning her three medals representing India and the prestigious title of Asia’s Best Powerlifter twice. Her transformation from chronic pain to international powerlifting champion is a powerful narrative of resilience and the profound impact of tailored fitness.

The Daily Routine: A Commitment to Wellness

For Mohan and Naisy, fitness is a non-negotiable priority. They start their mornings with a dedicated gym routine, a practice so consistent that their community in Kannur no longer questions their unwavering commitment. Both emphasize that regular exercise significantly helps in preventing lifestyle-related diseases.

Mohan, at 60, and Naisy, at 57, advocate that their current age is the opportune time to prioritize fitness. However, they stress the importance of working out under the guidance of a qualified trainer, ensuring that exercise routines are meticulously tailored to one’s age and physical capability. They also advise against working out when fatigued and highlight the critical role of diet in maintaining overall health.

Inspiring a Generation: Beyond Personal Achievements

The Peters couple’s story transcends their personal achievements. They are a living example for countless individuals, especially senior citizens, demonstrating that retirement can be a period of renewed purpose and vigorous activity rather than decline. Their journey underlines the message that physical health is a continuous pursuit, independent of age, and that with discipline and the right guidance, remarkable feats are possible at any stage of life. Their consistent dedication and international successes serve as a powerful beacon of inspiration within Kerala and beyond.
