Farmington Native Returns Home to Open New Jiu-Jitsu Fitness Class

A Farmington native is bringing her passion for martial arts back home, opening a new Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) fitness center in the heart of the city. Cecilia Hathcock, a black belt in BJJ, is launching Zia Fitness & Jiu Jitsu, aiming to share her knowledge and skills with the community. The gym is scheduled to open its doors the first week of February, offering a diverse range of classes for all ages and skill levels.

A Lifelong Passion for Martial Arts

Hathcock’s journey in martial arts is extensive, marked by numerous competitions, medals, and the achievement of a black belt in BJJ. This accomplishment reflects years of dedication and training, providing her with the confidence to establish her own gym. Her aim is to make BJJ, kickboxing, and yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of their prior experience.

“My philosophy is Jiu Jitsu is for everybody,” Hathcock stated, emphasizing that her classes are designed to accommodate various needs and fitness levels. The classes will cater to “business professionals, moms who, you know, want to just come in and burn some calories, learn some techniques without having to go so hard that they might get injured.” This inclusive approach sets her gym apart, inviting individuals from all walks of life to participate in the benefits of martial arts training.

Zia Fitness & Jiu Jitsu will offer a wide array of programs, including:

Zia Fitness & Jiu Jitsu is awaiting a final fire inspection but is aiming to open its doors the first week of February. Approximately 40 people are already ready to sign up, with more expected to join as word spreads about the new gym.
