Jake Luhrs, the frontman of the Grammy-nominated metalcore band August Burns Red, has expanded his commitment to helping others by venturing into the fitness and mental health space. Beyond his musical endeavors, Luhrs has established himself as a passionate advocate for mental well-being, creating opportunities to merge physical and mental health support.

YourLife Gym: A Unique Approach to Wellness

Luhrs realized a long-held vision by opening YourLife Gym in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This gym stands out as one of the first to intentionally integrate mental health resources with physical fitness programs.

Addressing a Critical Need

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the growing need for mental health support, with increased rates of suicide and mental health struggles within his community. Seeing the impact of the pandemic, Luhrs felt compelled to take action and provide a space where people could address both their physical and mental well-being.

YourLife Gym goes beyond traditional fitness offerings by incorporating mental health discussion classes led by Luhrs’ nonprofit organization, HeartSupport. A unique feature of the gym is the “War Room,” where members can write down their goals and feelings on a chalkboard, promoting self-reflection and community support.
