Mumbai, India – Actor Dilip Joshi, widely known for his role as Jethalal in the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has clarified the recent buzz surrounding his significant weight loss. Joshi revealed that the much-talked-about transformation actually occurred decades ago, back in 1992, for a film role.

Speaking to photographers at a recent event in Mumbai, Joshi responded to queries about his “remarkable weight loss” with a chuckle. “Areey, 1992 mein kiya tha bhai, abhi pata nahi kissi ne social media pe chala diya yaar (Oh, it was in 1992, brother. I don’t know who put it on social media now),” he stated, acknowledging the current trending topic on social media.

The Origin of the Viral Weight Loss

The story, which recently gained widespread traction across social media platforms, details how Joshi shed 16 kilograms in just 45 days without resorting to strict diets or intense gym workouts. This impressive transformation was for his role as a scientist named Hunshilal in the 1992 Gujarati film Hun Hunshi Hunshilal.

A Simple, Consistent Routine

Joshi’s method for losing weight was surprisingly simple: a disciplined regimen of daily 45-minute jogs. He recounted how he would complete his office work, change at a swimming club, and then jog the entire stretch of Marine Drive in Mumbai, all the way to Oberoi Hotel, even in the rain. This routine, consistently followed for about one and a half months, proved highly effective. “I would jog the whole way, and it used to take me 45 minutes. I lost 16 kgs in one and a half months,” Joshi told Mashable India in a past interview that has now resurfaced.

The Power of Old-School Discipline

His approach highlights the efficacy of consistency and old-school fitness methods over reliance on trainers, special diets, or supplements. This straightforward yet dedicated routine allowed him to achieve a significant physical transformation, which is now inspiring many due to its simplicity and effectiveness.

While his on-screen character Jethalal is known for his fondness for oily snacks like fafda and jalebi, Joshi’s personal fitness journey showcases a different discipline. His experience also aligns with scientific understanding that running is an excellent way to burn calories and create a deficit necessary for weight loss. The resurfacing of his decades-old weight loss story serves as a testament to the power of fundamental fitness practices and consistency.
