Alex Drummond, daughter of Ree Drummond, “The Pioneer Woman,” is known for her refreshingly candid approach to life. Recently, she opened up about her postpartum journey after welcoming her baby girl, Sofia, and addressed questions about her “diet routine” in an Instagram Q&A. Her honest answers provide a realistic glimpse into the priorities and challenges of new motherhood.

Alex Drummond’s Postpartum Diet and Fitness

When asked if she was following a specific diet or weight-loss routine after Sofia’s birth, Alex responded with a relatable, “Honestly no”. She explained that dieting has been difficult while breastfeeding but noted that her appetite is returning to normal. As a result, she is trying to be mindful of her food choices.

Alex emphasized that her primary focus is on enjoying everyday activities with Sofia rather than adhering to a strict workout or diet plan. With the arrival of warmer weather, she has particularly enjoyed taking long walks.

While Alex hopes to incorporate a regular workout routine into her life eventually, she admitted that finding the time has been challenging, especially since she cherishes her slow, cozy mornings with Sofia. She mentioned that the best plan would be to exercise early in the morning before Sofia wakes up, but she loves her current morning routine.

Embracing a Slower Pace

Alex has made it clear that she wants to spend her time and attention on these precious early days with Sofia. While workouts and meal planning may eventually find their way back into her routine, she is currently embracing a slower pace. She recognizes that these early moments with her daughter are fleeting and wants to savor them.

The Joys and Challenges of New Motherhood

In addition to discussing her postpartum diet and fitness, Alex has also shared other aspects of her experience as a new mom. Less than a month after Sofia’s birth in mid-December, Alex opened up about some of the things that have surprised her most about motherhood in a series of Instagram Story updates.

One of the biggest surprises for Alex was the breastfeeding schedule and how demanding it is. She described figuring out the daily breastfeeding schedule as doing “mental gymnastics”. However, she also expressed amazement at how her body can sustain life.

Alex also mentioned that finding time to catch up on sleep has been a challenge, as have postpartum “sundown scaries”. She also relies on onesies. Despite these challenges, Alex emphasized the immense love she feels for Sofia. She stated that she would “literally lay my life down for her” and that she could have never predicted the level of love she would have for her daughter.

Other Postpartum Updates

During her pregnancy, Alex shared updates on her experiences, including cravings and feeling the baby move for the first time. She mentioned that she had been feeling hungrier and had reached the stage in her pregnancy where she needed to increase her daily caloric intake.

Alex also shared a glimpse into her birth story, which began when a routine doctor’s visit revealed that Sofia should be born sooner than anticipated. She posted video memories of the special day, including moments at the hospital and the arrival of Sofia.
